THE BONOBAS HELP THEIR CHILDREN TO FLIRT

SUMMARY

Most mothers of mammals take care of their children until they reach adulthood, when they become detached from them or become independent. But with the bonobas the concern goes further; they take care that their children mate, even stopping the attemps of other males.

Bonobo moms are capable of everything for make their children parents. When their childs try to mate and another males prevent it, mothers chase away these males.

After several years of observing four groups of bonobos that inhabit the "Congolese jungles, the authors of the study found that where the mother is present, adult children are up to 3,14 times more likely to be parents than other males.

However, the bonobas do not do the same with their daughters. Despite several years of investigation, the scientists didn't detect behaviours that facilitate their mating.

COMMENTARY

When I read the title of this new, I don't know why, but I needed to enter. Maybe the reasons were that two words; "bonobas and flirt". I had heard that mothers protects their youngs of everything, that they feed them...but I never heard that an animal could help their offsprings to flirt.

Apart from the funny part of this new, is really interesting and curious as this have a reason. The mothers are trying to progress its family and nobody could stop them. The mother objective is make that their childs mate to make sure that the family will continue when she die.

Also, it's very curious that this only happens with their sons and not with their daughters, not even the scientists know the reason of this. That means that among bonobos, are the daughters who leave the group and the children who remain, guaratying the genetic transmission.
